Kombucha is a delicious, lightly effervescent fermented tea full of live cultures, yeasts and beneficial bacteria. It tastes so good too; it’s a very adult non alcoholic beverage.
In this practical hands on workshop you’ll be exploring the various stages of brewing your own kombucha at home using simple, inexpensive tools and ingredients. You learn all about the SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast), which teas to use, how to flavour and bottle your booch as well as how get get some natural fizz.
Understanding how to brew kombucha opens up a whole new exciting world of fermented drinks and soda so you’ll also have the skills to make ginger beer and kvass.
PLUS we’ll be making a fruit shrub so that you have something sexy to make with any batch of kombucha you leave to brew too long (kombucha vinegar). A shrub is a delicious cordial that dates back to the 17th Century and is diluted with sparkling water or tonic to make a refreshing drink. Mixologists also sneak shrubs into their fancy cocktails. You’ll be able to enjoy your shrub as soon as you get home … while you wait for your kombucha to brew.
You’ll leave with your own jar of kombucha to nurture at home. (2ltr jar, scoby and starter culture included in the price). You’ll also take your fruit shrub home.
You will need to bring:
- An apron
- A bag to carry your kombucha home in
- A punnet of soft fruit (something that is easy to mash like raspberries)
- A litre jar or bottle for your fruit shrub
